dr Amin pmr austin texasKunj B. Amin, MD.

Board Certified - Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Fellowship Trained - Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine
Affiliate Faculty - Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dell Medical School at The University of Texas

Dr. Kunj B. Amin received his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois and from there completed his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then came to here to Austin, Texas where he completed his fellowship training in Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine at Ascension Texas Spine and Scoliosis. During this time, Dr. Amin developed extensive experience caring for a range of complex spinal disorders, including advanced cases of scoliosis, sciatica, disc degeneration, spinal arthritis, and spinal stenosis.

Dr. Amin’s approach to care is simple: delivering exceptional, patient-centered care for spine-related conditions that helps people live their best life. He believes this starts with an accurate diagnosis and then addressing the root cause of symptoms. Many patients complain about pain in different areas of the body such as into the buttock or shoulder areas or down their arms and legs that are actually caused by spinal issues. An incorrect diagnosis can prevent them from resolving symptoms.

Dr. Amin understands that women are disproportionately affected by spinal disorders throughout life and particularly due to pregnancy and menopause. He specializes in diagnosing and treating these disorders, with a particular focus on “Hip-Spine Syndrome” where pain from spinal disorders impacts the low back, buttock, and hip areas.

Dr. Amin can provide second opinions to patients offered spine surgery to ensure less invasive options have been considered. He is experienced in non-surgical image-guided spinal and musculoskeletal injections and ablations, as well as working closely with chiropractors and physical therapists to deliver targeted rehabilitation and exercise programs. While he strives to help his patients in the most minimally-invasive way possible, he works closely with the Spine Center's surgeons and understands when surgical options need to be considered for a recovery from symptoms.

"Dr. Amin approaches care with an evidence-based approach, striving to utilize the most up-to-date science and techniques in his practice. As an affiliate faculty with the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas, he assists with the teaching of medical students and residents through mentorship, clinical rotations, and lectureship. He is actively involved with two of the foremost national and international organizations dedicated to spine care. He serves on the Spine Intervention Society (SIS) committee for Patient Safety where he collaborates with colleagues from around the world to develop best practice recommendations for the safe performance of interventional spine procedures. He also serves on the Sacroiliac Joint committee of the North American Spine Society (NASS), collaborating on best practices in the treatment of sacroiliac joint disorders. Locally, he is a member of the Travis County Medical Society and Texas Medical Association. He has been named as a Rising Star in his field for 2023 by Texas Monthly and Super Doctors."

Dr. Amin was born and raised in the Midwest and happily calls Austin home. He enjoys spending time with his wife, exploring the great outdoors of Texas, paddle boarding on Town Lake, and finding the best taco in Austin.
