Lee E. Moroz, MD

Lee Moroz, MD, is a board-certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician specializing in the non-surgical diagnosis and treatment of spine and musculoskeletal conditions. Practicing in Austin, Texas since 2005, Dr. Moroz brings more than two decades of experience helping patients manage neck and back pain, restore function, and return to the activities that matter most to them—often without the need for surgery.

At Texas Spine and Scoliosis, Dr. Moroz focuses on comprehensive, individualized care for patients with spinal and musculoskeletal disorders. His clinical interests include lumbar spinal conditions, particularly the non-surgical management of lumbar radiculopathy, sciatica, spinal stenosis, neurogenic claudication, and arthritis-related neck and lower back pain. He has extensive experience with image-guided interventional spine procedures, including cervical and lumbar epidural steroid injections and lumbar facet rhizotomy.

Central to Dr. Moroz’s approach is his belief that many degenerative spine and musculoskeletal conditions can be successfully managed through nonoperative care. Rather than focusing solely on a patient’s symptoms, he considers the complete clinical picture—including medical history, previous treatments, lifestyle, functional limitations, and individual goals—to develop a personalized treatment strategy.

Patient education is also an important part of his practice. Dr. Moroz takes time to help patients understand their diagnosis, including how degenerative conditions can affect the biomechanics of the spine and contribute to pain and limitations in function. By giving patients a clearer understanding of their condition and available treatment options, he strives to make them active participants in decisions about their care. His goal is not simply to reduce pain, but to improve mobility and function while helping patients avoid or delay spinal surgery whenever appropriate.

Dr. Moroz’s interest in nonoperative spine care grew from his broader interest in musculoskeletal and orthopedic medicine. He chose Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation because of its emphasis on restoring function and treating musculoskeletal conditions through non-surgical approaches. That philosophy continues to guide his practice today: with comprehensive diagnosis, thoughtful treatment, and patient education, many individuals with degenerative spine conditions can achieve meaningful pain relief and functional improvement without surgery.

Dr. Moroz earned his undergraduate degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and his medical degree from McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the renowned Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation at NYU Medical Center and served as Chief Resident at the Manhattan Veterans Affairs Hospital.

Board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Moroz has also contributed to the advancement of spine care through clinical research. He served as a co-investigator in the SMART trial involving the Intracept® basivertebral nerve ablation system and has contributed to research published in respected medical journals, including the Journal of Neurosurgery, The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, and the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He has also been recognized as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor multiple times.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Moroz is committed to creating an environment in which patients feel informed, heard, and comfortable discussing their condition and treatment options. Whether helping a patient manage chronic lower back pain, address symptoms of spinal stenosis or radiculopathy, or determine whether an interventional procedure is appropriate, his goal remains the same: provide thoughtful, evidence-based care that relieves pain, restores function, and helps each patient maintain the best possible quality of life.
